Magnesium requirement
Under normal conditions, everyone has a basic daily need. Men need at least 350 mg magnesium; for women the requirement is slightly lower at 300 mg, as they have less muscle mass.
In some life situations, however, there is an increased need for magnesium. Such an additional requirement for magnesium occurs in:
Competitive sports or heavy manual labour
Stress
Calcium deficiency
Pregnancy
Diets or being underweight
Taking certain medications (diuretics, contraceptive pills, etc.)
Another factor that increases demand is heavy strain on the human body, whether due to hard manual labour, competitive sports, stress or pregnancy.
In addition to all these possible causes, a genetic predisposition can also be a factor. Since magnesium is absorbed through the intestine and reabsorbed by the kidneys, functional limitations of these organs are detrimental to the magnesium balance.
