This is because DHA is the most abundant fatty acid in the photoreceptor cells, but also in the brain. It plays a role in the structure of the retina and thus also in maintaining normal vision.
In addition to the fundus, the outer layer of the tear film also contains fat. This ensures that our tears do not evaporate and that the eyes are well moistened.
Tips for protecting your eyes
In addition to a balanced diet with omega-3 fatty acids, there are other tips that you can implement to protect your eyes. When you go out in the sun, always wear sunglasses to avoid direct UV radiation. You should also avoid cigarette smoke and give yourself and your eyes enough sleep.
